Barbara M. (Sherman) Hollenbeck, 83, of Vestal, NY peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2016.  She is predeceased by her son, Samuel J. Portararo.  She is survived by loving family, her husband, Floyd G. Hollenbeck, her brother, Howard (Jack) Sherman of Huffman, Texas, and her children:  Christine Segrue of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Linda (Portararo) Sniezek and Joseph Sniezek of Endwell, NY and Katharine Schaff of Seattle, Washington.  She leaves behind her loving grandchildren:  Timothy Fehr, Arla Luce, Jason Moelder and Tiffany Tracy, Brooke Moelder and Dave Hammond, Colleen Segrue, Nicholas Sniezek, Alexander Sniezek, Ashley Baker, Charles Schaff, Samuel Schaff, DeEtte Bready, Brandi Portararo and Amber Williams, as well as 25 great grandchildren, 11 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was an avid science fiction reader and movie watcher and loved cooking for her family.  She was also a former President of the John W. Thurston Marine Corps League Auxiliary Detachment.  She was a dedicated housekeeper for private residence homes and also a top-notch waitress.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 105 Sheedy Road, Vestal, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065.
