Ethelwyn Joy Crandall age 88 of Binghamton, passed away on August 9, 2016. She was born into the family of John and Susan Tyler of Old Forge, PA on December 16, 1927. She is predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings; her husband of 38 years William H. Burford Jr., her son William B. Burford; her second husband of 12 years David Crandall; her sister-in-law and dear life-long friend Janice Tyler. She is survived by 4 children; Valli (Paul) Barrett, Shela (David) Crandall, Lesa Burford and Barry Burford; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; as well as her second husband David’s family, another dear sister-in-law Joyce Crandall, her nieces, nephews and cousins in the VanNess and Smith families of Scranton, PA; the Tyler family in New Mexico and locally the Tanzini and Halpin families.

In the 1940's, Effie and her sister Esther (Tanzini) moved to the Binghamton area to take advantage of the opportunities for employment at Endicott Johnson. She soon met her husband William and settled in the area with her new family. In 1953 she began a deep study of the Bible and as a result Effie developed a deep faith in the hope and promises in God's Word. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 26, 1955. It was her great joy to teach both her family, and then many others she met in the ministry work she loved, the truths she had learned. She is also survived by her spiritual family, her many dear brothers and sisters in the area. Her spiritual home was the North Binghamton Congregation and it brought her much joy and satisfaction to see how the Congregation grew over so many years, and to have helped with the construction of both the first and second North Binghamton Kingdom Halls, as well as the Rochester Assembly Hall, and to spend time there regularly with her many dear friends. She shared her faith in God's Word with others right up until the end of her life, and cherished the hope of seeing all of her dear loved ones again, when those promises she had such strong faith in are fulfilled. She truly believed that "it is impossible for God to lie" (Hebrews 6:18) and “you well know with all your heart and with all your soul that not one word out of all the good promises that Jehovah your God has spoken to you has failed. They have all come true for you. Not one word of them has failed.” (Joshua 23:14) Please visit JW.org and see for yourself what our Grand Creator has promised us.
Effie's family would like to extend a special heart-felt Thank You to the staff of Wilson Hospital’s South Tower 3. The gentle kindness that you extended to our mother went far beyond duty and we deeply appreciate it.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 184 Castle Creek Rd. Binghamton, NY. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM until the 5:30PM service begins.
