Marcia Matiss (Getz)

Marcia Matiss, 66, of Smithville Flats, NY passed away August 31st after a brief illness. Marcia is survived by her husband Frederick K. Getz, sons Carl (Mary) and Andrew Kanoff, grandchildren Kale and Finlay Kanoff, brother in law Bill Marinaccio, sister Alexandra Matiss (died September 1, 2016), brother “Bo” (Patty) Matiss, nieces Marisa (Ken) Padgett, Christina (Rob) Hudson, Jennifer Matiss, nephew Robert Matiss.

Marcia was a 1968 graduate of Binghamton High School, later earning her degree in education in 1972 from the State University of New York at Cortland. She was a Biology and Life Sciences teacher at Candor High School for over 30 overs.

Marcia had a passion for the outdoors, especially the ocean and during the change of seasons. She was an avid swimmer. Upon retirement in 2005, she travelled extensively in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico. When at home she enjoyed living on Echo Lake. She was a proud member of the Lions Club of Freeport, NY.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
