Mary O'Dea - Murphy
July 12, 1923 ~ February 1, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years OldMary V. O’Dea-Murphy 92, of Binghamton, NY passed away at Lourdes Hospital after a brief illness on February 1, 2016. Mary was predeceased by her husband Joseph N. Murphy; daughter Mary Murphy Lim ; son-in-laws Kenny Lim and Edward B. Hutchins; parents Ernest and Merneah Celia Hickey O’Dea; brothers & sister-in-laws Ernest ; Patricia O’Dea, Dennis and Eleanor O’Dea, James and Millie O’Dea , Gus O’Dea; grandsons Xavier Patrick Hutchins and Keenan Patrick Murphy.
Mary is survived by her children Evelyn (David) Sympson, Louisville, KY; Ellen Hahn Latham, NY; Joseph (Terry) Murphy Chesapeake, VA; Martha Murphy-Hutchins Binghamton, NY; John (Carla) Murphy, Binghamton, NY; sister Margretta (Peg ) Stackhouse; grandchildren Erin (Bill) Moore, Tampa, FL ; Bridget (Jeff) Handley, Greensboro, NC ; Robert and Nicki Hahn, Latham, NY ; Joseph & Nicholas Murphy, Chesapeake, VA; Sullivan Murphy, Port St. Lucie, FL ; Alison Murphy, Binghamton, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was born and raised in Five Mile Point. She graduated from Windsor High School, went on to be a beautician. She put her career aside to raise her 6 children. She worked at McDonalds for 17 years. Mary has been member of Sts. John and Andrew Catholic Church for 66 years.
She spent her last couple of months before she became ill traveling to see her children. Mary was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed immensely. A Special Thank You to the doctors & nurses at Lourdes Hospital ER & 1 Ross.
The family will receive friends on Friday February 5, 2016 at the Savage Family Center 338-344 Conklin Ave. Binghamton, NY from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. On Saturday February 6, 2016 at 10:00am a Funeral Mass will be held at the Parish of Sts. John and Andrew Church 1263 Vestal Avenue Binghamton, NY.
