Robert Lane died at Lourdes Hospital from post surgical complications. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday November 6th, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Grace; Two daughters Carrie Rudd, Rebeccca Petrilli; Three Sons Robert, Michael, Christopher; Grandchildren Ian & Lauren Rudd, Siena and Eva Petrilli; siblings Beverly (Cliff) Hogg, Carol Lane; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Olga, and his brother Lawrence Lee Lane Jr.
Robert Lane was born May 22, 1948 in Johnson City, New York to Lawrence and Olga Karabon Lane. He graduated from Vestal High School in 1967 and served in the United States Army from 1968- 1971. On July 3rd, 1970 he married Grace Elizabeth Gleason in Ohio. It was his stubbornness and training in the military that prepared him for his introduction to the Gleason family and a long and successful marriage of 45 years. Robert was employed by IBM where he worked in manufacturing for over 30 years. Amongst golfing, other hobbies included hunting and fishing with his long time loyal friend Milton Knickerbocker. His family also fondly remembers him shouting at the television on numerous occasions while watching his New York Giants play football. Through firm determination and perseverance, he was able to combat and manage his mental illness throughout the years. His family will remember him as a successful father who strove to provide a better life than he had for his children. He taught by example to find happiness in the simple things in life and that character is defined by not what you say, but by what you do. Robert was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
