David Dix Obituary

David G. Dix Sr. (74) of Starrucca, PA passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2024.  He is predeceased by; his father, Edward H. Dix; and his mother, Dorothy Dix; his sister, Dawn Yonkin; and his brother, Edward I.Dix.  David is survived by; his daughter, Amy (MIchael) Mech of Tully, NY; grandchildren, Daniel and Macy Mech; his son, David (Erin) Dix Jr. of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Jordyn and Kaden Dix; sister, Betsy Ambuter; many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was a kind soul with a big heart who loved to spend time outdoors and in the solitude of the woods. He was a beloved dad, grandfather (Tractor Pop), brother, coach, friend to many, teacher, and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was also  an all-around ball buster. You knew he liked you when he picked on you.


David was a graduate of Hancock Central Schools where he excelled in wrestling and football. After serving honorably in the US Air Force as a Police Officer in Dover, DE he returned to Starlight, PA where he worked as caretaker and head of maintenance and facilities at Camp Starlight for over 10 years. In addition to his responsibilities at Starlight he oversaw the operation of the sewage treatment plant for Preston Township. David was a highly skilled carpenter and home builder. After many years working and mentoring others he pursued a teaching degree and gained his teaching certification which led him to his true calling as a middle school science teacher in the Hancock Central Schools. While at Hancock he was able to resume his joy of the sports of wrestling and football. There he took over the role of wrestling coach and assistant football coach. Above all, David took joy in sharing the latest achievements of his children and grandchildren.
