Our loving Mother, Gram, GG, and Aunt went to her heavenly home and joined her Bobby on September 11, 2025, at the age of 99, or as she said it “I’ve lived my 100 years, just waiting for the paperwork, peacefully and with a smile. She was born in Binghamton January 3, 1926 and moved to Gelatt, Pa shortly after, and grew up on the family Farm in Jackson, Pa. She graduated in 1943 from New Milford High School and from there entered Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing. She, along with several classmates, joined the Army Cadet Nurse Corps to help pay for her nursing school. Before she graduated, WW2 ended and they were all discharged. While in nursing school she met her Bobby, and they married in 1950. She worked for many years at BCH/BGH. She took off time to raise her children. And she finished out her nursing career at Binghamton State Hospital. In retirement she was a Hospice volunteer, and was always available to do “private duty nursing” for friends and neighbors. She loved to sew and was an amazing baker. But her family was always first. She and her Bobby enjoyed many years traveling and camping with their close group of friends, loving to take the grands on those trips. She was a member of the Former Little White Church, was a youth leader, and in later years making quilts. She moved to Conklin in 1958 and made it her home, living thru 2 “once in a life time floods”.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Dewey and Florence Carpenter, and all of her siblings, brothers Greg, David, William, Richard and John, and sisters who she is “folding blankets with” once again, Carol, Eleanor, Gustava, Martha, and Esther.
She is survived and loved by her son Robert and Evelyn, and daughter Patricia, Grandchildren Brian, Thomas & Alis, Hannah, Cory & Rachel, Jacob & Becky, and Steven. The light of her life, her great grands Colby, Mackenzie, Elizabeth, Macie, Ethan, Emily, Anna Jane, Asher, Alexa, James, Braelynn, and Lynkon. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
She left some very personal requests, including a family burial that will be Sept 26, 2025 at 11 AM, Lamb Cemetery in Jackson, Pa next to her Bobby. She wants a celebration of a “Life Well Lived” and it will be on Sept 27, 2025, 11am -3pm at The Family Center at Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Dr, Norwich, NY. Please join us as we celebrate this special woman.
Her family would like to extend a special THANK YOU to Elizabeth Church Manor, and especially to Marnie, Maria, Daniel, Miriam, Angela, Jess, Sister Theresa, Carrie, and Linda at the front desk who had a smile that was always like a hug. She loved and appreciated you all.
In Lieu of flowers we are requesting donations be made in Mary’s memory to Twin Tiers Honor Flight, PO Box 1770, Binghamton, NY 13902.
