Patricia Gemmelli Obituary

Patricia Anne Gemmelli (1944 - 2024)

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Patricia Anne Gemmelli, who left us on August 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Patricia was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a brave battle with illness.

Patricia was born on August 18, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the beloved daughter of the late Matthew and Caroline Ryan. Growing up in a close-knit family, Patricia learned the values of love, resilience, and compassion, which she carried with her throughout her life.

Patricia was the proud mother of two sons, Eric Guzewicz and Russell Guzewicz. She was a dedicated and loving mother, always providing her sons with unwavering support and guidance. Her joy was further amplified by her two adored grandchildren, Caroline and Eva, who brought immense happiness and pride into her life.

Patricia shared a special bond with her two sisters, Susanna Ryan and Kathleen Puiatti. Their sisterly love and lifelong companionship were a source of great comfort and strength to her.

For 30 years, Patricia worked at Stony Brook University as the clerical supervisor in the main library. She was a proud member of the CSEA. Her dedication and commitment to her work were evident in her efficient management and warm interactions with colleagues and students alike. She was highly respected and appreciated for her contributions to the university community.

Patricia was known for her impeccable taste in fine clothing and her love for colorful scarves. Her unique sense of style was admired by many and reflected her vibrant personality. She had a particular fondness for her grandchildren, Caroline and Eva, and cherished every moment spent with them.

Patricia's generosity extended beyond her family. Her selflessness and compassion were evident in all her actions, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness.

Patricia is survived by her sons, Russell Guzewicz and wife Maureen, children Caroline and Eva Guzewicz, Eric Guzewicz and Jade Yin, her sisters, Susanna Ryan and her husband Mark John, and Kathleen Puiatti and her husband Joe; as well as aunt, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made in Patricia's name to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

May she rest in peace.
