Robert Gritsavage Obituary

Robert Gritsavage, 88, of Endicott NY, passed peacefully into our Lord and Savior's arms on Thursday, September 23, 2021, surrounded by his family.  Robert was predeceased by the loving wife Anna of 66 years in October 2019.  He is survived by; his children and their spouses; Robert A. and (Jeannie) of Endicott, Daniel and (Rhonda) of Navarre, FL, Judith Lake and (Timothy) of Liberty, NY and Anthony of Loveland CO; grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Matthew, Catherine, Adam, Tobi, Jamie, Christopher, Danielle, Ashley and Brady; 12 Great-Grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert was born September 27, 1932 in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania, son of the late Walter and Edna Gritsavage.  He graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1950, then joined the United States Air Force, as a proud veteran of the Korean War era.  Upon discharge from the Air Force, he graduated from Wilkes College and had a 32 year career with the Vestal School District where he taught American history until his retirement in 1990.  Once retired, Robert spent his time as an avid sports fan, novice bowler and golfer.  He loved the daily crossword, and was an All-Star Dad.  He dedicated his life to his family activities, doting over his only daughter Judy, and instilled his love for baseball in each of his sons. He was also a little league coach for his son Daniel's baseball team with West Corners LL.  During one summer, Robert drove Anna and youngest son Anthony for a cross country trip in their van.  After retirement he attended every one of his oldest son Bobby's softball games because he was never able to coach those as Dad was busy working two jobs when Bobby played little league. He did provide coaching advice to Bobby saying, "Its one thing to carry a piano on your back when your running the bases, but you don't have to play it too."  He would always express his pride in each of his children, and for the success they had achieved in their careers, as well as the wonderful families they had raised.

Those who got to know Robert probably heard some of the long list of number 8's that turned up in everything involving numbers in his life.  It is ironic that he would pass at the age of 88 years.  Robert was a 58 year member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, and a 68 year member of the American Legion, largely at Post 1700 in Endicott.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 1st at 9:00 am, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.SavageFS.com.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Robert's memory to a charity of one's choice.  Arrangements by Savage-Demarco Funeral Service.
