Robert (Bob) Michael Piros, 78, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022 after a long illness. He was born on October 5, 1943 in Mount Pleasant, NY and grew up in the First Ward of Binghamton, NY. Bob is survived by his significant other of 33 years, Cheryl Stephens of Binghamton, NY, and her daughters Sara Tripp of Vestal, NY and Emily (Rich) Tripp of Greene, NY, whom he loved as his own; sons Andrew "Chip" (Noel) Piros of Longwood, FL, John Piros of Altamonte Springs, FL, Robert Jr., and Billy (Shannon) Gray of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Aiden, Noah, Trace, Ella, and Jacob; brother John (Vivian) Piros of Conkin, NY; half-sisters Liz and Linda Post of Milwaukee, WI; half-brother Lee Post of Binghamton, NY; nephews Michael (Linda) Piros of Mount Gilead, NC, David (Jill) Piros of Lugoff, SC, and Carl (Robin) Piros of Johnson City, NY; niece Diana (Jeffrey) Kleinwaks of Syracuse, NY; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his "Dada" Michael Piros, his mother Elizabeth Backus, first wife Jean Piros, second wife Moya Piros of Altamonte Springs, FL, third wife Linda Campbell, and half-brother Richard Post of Syracuse, NY. He joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and served for four years before returning to the Binghamton area. He worked as a plumber and welder on a variety of major construction jobs such as the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, NY and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Oswego, NY. He also taught classes on welding, plumbing, heating, auto mechanics, small engine repair, and environmental conservation at Broome-Tioga BOCES in the early 1980s. His two main passions were cars and guns. He built and raced cars regionally, including at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, NY, and enjoyed visiting hot rod and classic car shows. He was a certified hunter safety instructor, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and an active member of the Broome County Sportsmen's Association. The family would like to thank the staff at UHS Wilson Medical Center for their compassionate care during his final days. Bob will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Castle Creek, NY next to his first wife, Jean, and his mother.
