Shawn Kayce Young

Shawn Kayce ("Tiger") Young, formerly of Binghamton, NY, passed away June 13, 2026. Born on February 16, 1975, Shawn is survived by his daughters Samantha, Sarena, and Sienna; his younger brothers, Jamie M. Young (Alexis Estrada Young, wife) of Vestal, NY, Kim W. Young (Tonianne Graziano-Young, wife) of Vestal, NY, and Matthew B. Young, an expat in Asia; Kwong Young, his adopted father; his mother Michelle Young (nee Petitte); several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is preceded by Barry J. Transue, his biological father; all of his grandparents; and two uncles, James B. Petitte and David Transue.

Shawn had a great passion for tennis. The game served as a guiding light throughout the years. Learning tennis from the age of 5 from former Broome Community College tennis coach Oz Winters, tennis whiz Steve Howland of Windsor, NY; and his adopted father Kwong Young of Phoenix, AZ, Shawn helped establish a local chapter of the National Junior Tennis League (now called National Junior Tennis and Learning) in the Binghamton area, and became an excellent player and dedicated professional working in the tennis industry.  

As an adult, Shawn earned his certification in the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and developed coaching techniques at clubs in various states: his home club at the Binghamton Tennis Center; the Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club in Torrington, CT; the YMCA in Manlius, NY, and Rippner Tennis at the South Austin Tennis Center where he was a senior coach for six years until his untimely death at his home in Austin, TX. .

Shawn was beloved by all of his students for his kindness, positivity, and cheery, embracing demeanor that touched thousands of students.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his memory to the USPTA Fund, the NJTL, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association, or a charitable foundation that's especially meaningful to you.
