William E. Stringer

William E. Stringer of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Binghamton, N.Y., passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Florida, on June 24, 2026. Born on September 6, 1931, in Ventnor, N.J., Bill was the son of William and Jeanette Stringer.

Bill graduated from Atlantic City High School and then served in the Korean War. After his term in the U.S. Army, he attended Syracuse University and earned a degree in Broadcasting. He then moved to Binghamton, N.Y., where he worked for WNBF Radio as a D.J. and WNBF TV as a news broadcaster.

This is when he met the love of his life, Bonnie, who was a registered nurse at General Hospital. They were married for 62 wonderful years until her passing in 2022.

Bill is survived by his three children: Brad (Ann) Stringer, Laurie (Larry) Chantry, and Karen (Kevin) Mullins; three grandchildren: Alycia (Tom) Bensley, Kelsey (Chad) Newman, and Elizabeth (Frank) Chantry; and seven beautiful great-grandchildren. Bill was so proud and loved them all dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ball, and wonderful beloved companion of the past few years, Eleanor Daily.

In 1975, Bill purchased his first Subway Sandwich franchise, beginning a successful career with Subway and building his business into Subway Development of N.Y. After 30 years, he sold the business and retired to his homes in Cross Creek Country Club, Fort Myers, Fla., and Quaker Lake in Brackney, Pa.

Bill was President of the Susquehanna Valley School Board for many years, President of the Quaker Lake Association, and President of the Cross Creek Homeowners Association. He also volunteered at the information desk of the RSW Fort Myers Airport for 25 years, up until the time of his passing.

Bill enjoyed boating, golfing, playing his keyboard, traveling, cruising, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Bubba.

At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at SavageFS.com.
