Dorothy Mae Chantry departed earthly life January 5, 2016. We know she had jobs to do, people to see, and places to go. Her mortal body just wasn't enough anymore. She joins her husband of 68 years Wendell Chantry, who predeceased her in 2013; and her oldest son Wendell who died in 1997. Dorothy was the only child of Edna (Mosher) and Laurence Wilcox. She is survived by her 4 children; Connie, Frank (Nancy), Lois (Cal) Larsen, Larry (Laurie);13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and cousins. Dorothy and her husband enjoyed years of active retirement traveling the United States in their RV, making many friends, enjoying biking, hiking and exercising at the Y. She dabbled in many hobbies and enjoyed sharing a love of knitting with both of her daughters. She was known for her bread baking. In addition to caring for her family Dorothy was a dedicated nurse and community volunteer. She received her nursing degree from Broome Tech in 1971 working in different facilities in the Binghamton area before retiring from Vestal Nursing Home as Director of Nursing. During her career she also served on the Susquehanna Valley School Board, as a member and as President. She also served as a member of the BOCES Board. Lifelong Christians, Dorothy and Wendell were active members of Conklin Avenue Baptist Church and also Conklin Presbyterian Church. Even after slowing down some, Dorothy continued to be active at Fairview Good Shepherd Home in their Club 80 and as volunteer auxiliary. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 16, 2015 at the Conklin Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends from 9:30am until the time of service.The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Fairview family and staff. Gifts in memory may be made to Fairview Good Shepherd’s Living Care Fund or to the Building Fund of Conklin Presbyterian Church.
